FAQs

How can you have such low pricing and yet claim high quality?

We don’t sell thru regional sales reps, eliminating mark-ups. As a small business, our overhead is low when compared to large, multinational competitors. We pass these savings to our customers.

You claim to make the most energy efficient cooling towers on the market?

Yes – we believe we do. Our larger cooling towers have aluminum alloy, hollow airfoil fans – the most efficient available. Fans for most models are direct drive, eliminating power loss and maintenance related to belt or gear drives. Our motors are all premium efficiency. Towers can be ordered with control panels with VFDs. For our closed cooling towers (water coolers) our spray pumps operate at up to 84% pumping efficiency, while some of our competitors may have pumps around 50% efficient. Because of our goal of making the most high quality cooling tower on the market, we also give you the most energy efficient.

What special features do you have that set you apart from the competition?

When we designed our cooling towers we asked “What are general maintenance issues for competitor’s cooling towers, and how can we design a standard cooling tower that takes care of these maintenance issues” Every tower we manufacturer and sell is made of stainless steel – setting us apart from competitors that sell cooling towers with relatively short service lives.  This mindset follows with our components – all high quality with long service lives, but that must be replaced at planned intervals during the cooling tower’s 25 year service life.

What is the lead time for a typical cooling tower?

Within a week of receiving a purchase order, we provide shop drawings for review and approval. After receiving approved shop drawings, we order materials, fabricate, and ship. Our suppliers for fans, pumps, and motors can typically provide components within a few weeks, but the entire process could take anywhere from 14 to 26 weeks (depending on our fabrication schedules). For planning purposes, assume 20 to 26 weeks. If you need a tower quickly, let us know.

What warranties do you provide?

We provide a standard one year warranty for materials and workmanship. However, we want feedback if any issues develop after warranties expire. Our goal is to have “customers for life” and to assist customers in any way we can.

Can I order spare parts?

We provide common spare parts with all our cooling towers. If you have critical operations (no spare cooling tower for back-up), we would recommend spare parts and can provide them for very reasonable pricing with the cooling tower.

What happens if my tower breaks and I have an emergency?

All of our components are shown on our shop drawings. If a motor fails, you can get it at Grainger. If a spray pump that fails, you can go directly to Taco, Goulds, or Barmesa for a replacement pump. We don’t milk our clients for spare parts – we provide great cooling towers for reasonable prices, and let clients get parts on the open market instead of directly from us.

Can I order fill from Stainless Cooling?

Of course! However, we provide fill dimensions and specifications on our shop drawings so you can also order fill directly from local cooling tower supply houses with reduced shipping costs.  This goes with all our cooling tower components – we provide full shop drawings with specifications allowing you to order spare parts from a variety of manufacturers – not just us – we want your business buying cooling towers, not replacement parts.

Do you provide start-up services and training?

If requested, yes. We can also provide full installation services. Our lead engineer also provides troubleshooting over the phone – we’re here to be your cooling tower supplier “for life” and we want you to tell others about your good experiences.

I have a 240 ton cooling tower serving about 260 tons of water source heat pumps. What size replacement tower should I order?

Typically the original cooling tower capacity is the best replacement capacity – the original engineer considered peak hour cooling requirements and fouling factor into his capacity calculations.  However, an alternate thought is footprint size – if you can fit a 280 ton cooling tower into the 240 ton footprint and is costs $5 K more, is that a good idea to order a larger closed circuit cooling tower?  A few things to consider is you can operate the cooling loop at a lower set point – saving electricity at the WSHPs, you don’t need to be as worried about removing scale each winter, and you have better peace of mind if one of the fans fail in the middle of the night.

When we designed our cooling towers we asked “what are maintenance issues for our competitor’s cooling towers, and how can we design a standard cooling tower that takes care of these maintenance issues” Our standard towers have long life and reduced maintenance, making us the manufacturer with the “highest quality cooling towers on the market.”
